Monday 9th January:  Day 2
In the clear up after New Year’s day dinner, the tin foil suffered.  There was a wee dent at one end of the roll and each time the foil was used that wee dent clung onto the foil at its end so that what was being torn off gradually got narrower and narrower.  Last night I had carefully, to unravel the build up to restore the roll to its full width again.
All of us carry dents.  It is impossible to go through life without acquiring at least a few along the way.  Some go deep.  Others are merely surface scratches.  When they start to narrow our lives however, it’s time we let them go.
God’s re-modelling Spirit, the one who can make something wonderful even out of nothing, gently touches those damaging dents and whispers in our ear: “let me carry these for you”.

Spirit of God,
Uncurl my fingers
And loosen my grip on what limits me...
Take the hurts that have wounded.
Take the disappointments that have scarred.
Take the broken relationships that have bruised and battered...
All the things of the past that have mis-shaped me...
Let your hand ever so gently,
Smooth over the dents,
Warming the coldness into new possibilities -
Of healing,
Forgiveness,
Wholeness...

This is a new day
Your new day
My new day
A new day with you.
Fresh.
Unlimited.
Broad.
Open.
And Good.
So good.
Because you carry me in it and through it.

I loosen my grip on the dents
And you set me free.
In hope.... thank you.
