Thursday 12th
January: Day 5
It’s good to take time
out and “chill”.
It’s even better to take
five in God’s company.
Can I ask you, before
you go any further though -
Can you stop for a
minute and check you’re breathing?
No, I’m serious!
Stop and be conscious of
the breaths you take....
Listen for them.
Feel how deep they
go.
Go on - take two or
three and really think about them...
Now, take a breath in
and hold it (count to ten)
Then slowly, as slowly
as you can, let your breath out.
There is so much we take
for granted.
Breathing is one of them
– but there are so many more.
It could be people,
work, our homes, our health whatever -
we’ll come back to some
of these another day.
For now, I want you to
think about what you take for granted about you.
You take your car for a
regular service.
You check your tires,
fill up with windscreen wash, check the oil, refuel the tank and make sure your
car is roadworthy.
How about you though?
When was the last time
you checked up on you?
Sometimes we act as
though we’re trying to replace the Duracell bunny and just keep going forever
and ever and ever and ever and ever....
But we can’t.
Why do we even try?
Because we don’t
appreciate what we’re worth.
I could write a prayer
on that thought...
Or send you to read
Psalm 139.
