Saturday 14th January: Day 7
Listen to your body.
Your body doesn’t speak, but it does still tell you things and we’re told to listen to what it has to say.  Your body will tell you when you’re tired or hungry, as well as when you’ve eaten too much, or need some fresh air or exercise and of course it tells you when you’re in pain.
Do we always listen to it though?
For something so natural it can take an awful lot of learning to be able to hear, really hear what our body might be saying to us.
And it’s the same when it comes to listening to our soul or our inner spirit.  This spiritual part of our body also speaks to us.  It nudges us: pokes us, prods us – but how much attention do we pay to what it’s trying to say?
Mmmm...

In the amazing beauty of a sunrise,
In the power of the surging waves breaking on the beach,
In the wonderful sound of geese honking overhead,
As well as in the smile or touch of someone I love
I feel that surge in spirits...
That tiny butterfly-flapping sense of being totally content
Privileged...

Even a well-timed text, just when I need it most,
Words of encouragement
Or just ‘news’ -
Contact
when I’m feeling down
can mean the world
and make the dark skies so much lighter.

And you know that, O God –
Which is why they come as a gift from you.

How often though, do I recognise you in these moments?
How often do I thank you for them?
How often do I let them carry me nearer to you?

In this day
May I listen to my soul:
To that inner spirit prompting me to see
To feel
To hear
You
So close by.

Nearer than my own breath.
May my spirit
Be lifted into yours.
